New Phone Numbers Available as Safaricom Launches 9 Fresh Number Ranges

Safaricom has introduced new phone number ranges, giving customers more options for prefixes.

In a statement on August 10, Safaricom said the new ranges come with prefixes 0118, 0119, 0140, 0141, 0142, 0143, 0180, 0181, and 0182.

This move provides customers seeking new Safaricom lines with additional number options as the telecommunications company expands its available number ranges.

 “Fresh number, fresh start! Safaricom’s new number ranges are here, giving you more ways to stay connected to the people and moments that matter. Get yours from any Safaricom Shop or Dealer outlet with prefixes 0118, 0119, 0140–0143, or 0180–0182,” read part of the notice.

Safaricom Unveils New Phone Number Ranges for Customers

Customers can obtain the new Safaricom phone numbers from any Safaricom Shop or authorized dealer outlet, where they can select a number from the newly introduced ranges.

Safaricom also reminded customers of the importance of keeping their mobile PINs confidential and avoiding sharing them with other people.

The introduction of new phone numbers follows the exhaustion of numbers in the longstanding 07-prefix series, prompting Safaricom to expand its available number ranges.

How Safaricom’s Phone Number Ranges Have Evolved

Safaricom’s mobile numbering system dates back to the early 2000s when the company began commercial mobile operations in Kenya. 0722 was among its first and most recognizable prefixes, followed by 0721 and 0720 as the customer base expanded.

Rising demand for mobile services later led to the introduction of the 070x, 071x, 072x, 074x, 075x, 076x and 079x ranges, giving the company more number blocks to allocate to customers.

As the available 07xx numbering space became increasingly limited, Kenya introduced the 01xx mobile numbering range to supplement the existing 07xx series. Safaricom was allocated new blocks, including 0110 and 0111, which were commercially introduced for SIM cards in 2020.

Safaricom subsequently expanded its 01xx ranges with additional prefixes including 0112, 0113, 0114 and 0115. The expansion provided more numbers as demand for mobile connections continued to grow, while availability within older 07xx blocks became constrained.

In August 2026, Safaricom announced another expansion, introducing nine new prefixes: 0118, 0119, 0140, 0141, 0142, 0143, 0180, 0181 and 0182.

New ranges give customers additional options when obtaining Safaricom lines and are available through Safaricom Shops and authorized dealer outlets. Specific number availability depends on the stock held by individual outlets.

Introduction of additional prefixes does not require existing customers to change their phone numbers. New ranges instead provide additional numbering capacity for customers seeking new Safaricom lines as the company continues to expand its available number inventory.
