Hospitality firm, Tamarind Management Limited, has announced the closure of its Tamarind Brasserie Restaurant outlet at Dari Business Park in Karen, Nairobi.

The Kenya Times independently confirmed the development after contacting the restaurant, which stated that the outlet had ceased operations.

In a notice dated April 27 and signed by Gerson M Misumi, Chairman of Tamarind Management Limited, the company indicated that the closure follows an ongoing dispute between Dari Limited and the East African Development Bank.

Tamarind Brasserie Restaurant Shut Down

The company noted that the dispute has unfortunately prevented it from accessing the premises.

“We wish to inform our esteemed customers and the general public that we have been compelled to close the Tamarind Brasserie Restaurant located at Dari Business Park,” read the notice in part.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and deeply appreciate the understanding of our valued customers. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our patrons for their continued loyalty and support over the years.”

The company assured customers that it is actively seeking suitable alternative premises and will communicate promptly once it successfully relocates.

It also confirmed that all other The Tamarind Group establishments remain fully operational and ready to serve customers.

Court Case on Dari Limited

The closure comes against the backdrop of a protracted legal dispute involving former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju and his family over the receivership of Dari Limited and a multi-billion-shilling debt owed to the East African Development Bank.

Tribulations against Tuju began 11 years ago, precisely in 2015, when the EADB granted the former Rarieda MP a loan of Ksh. 943.9 million to fund the acquisition and development of commercial units for sale in Nairobi.

The deal, according to court papers, was granted a 24-month grace period, which lapsed in 2017.

In November 2018, the East African Development Bank (EADB) filed a case against Dari Limited, a company registered under Raphael Tuju’s name, in the High Court of Justice Business and Property Courts of England and Wales.
