NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 21 – The number of registered mobile money agents in Kenya fell by 5.6 percent to 568,463 in the quarter ended June 30, 2026, even as mobile money subscriptions rose to a record 101.3 percent penetration.

The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) said mobile money subscriptions increased by 13.2 per cent to 4 million during the quarter, from 602,470 agents in the previous quarter.

Active mobile subscriptions across all networks also increased by 4.6 per cent to 87.99 million.

Mobile data subscriptions rose 9.7 percent year-on-year to 64.3 million in June 2026 from 58.6 million a year earlier.

Mobile broadband subscriptions accounted for 85.5 percent of total data subscriptions, with 4G being the most widely adopted broadband technology.

Smartphone subscriptions increased by 4.2 percent to 52.26 million, while feature phone subscriptions declined by 3.9 percent to 27.42 million.

“The Internet remained a key enabler of digital transformation, providing opportunities for economic participation and delivery of public and private sector services,” the CA said.
