The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) has appointed Paul Machocho Wanyeki as its new Director General and Chief Executive Officer, placing him at the helm of the agency responsible for regulating technical and vocational training in Kenya.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 21, the TVETA Board of Directors announced Wanyeki’s appointment, expressing confidence in his leadership and ability to advance the authority’s mandate.

“The Board of Directors of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Machocho Wanyeki as the Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the Authority,” the statement read.

Wanyeki brings more than 15 years of experience in technical and vocational education and training (TVET), spanning regulation, policy development, quality assurance, institutional leadership and skills development.

He previously held several senior positions at TVETA, including Acting Director of Standards Development, Compliance and Enforcement, where he gained experience in the regulation and oversight of technical and vocational training institutions.

Beyond TVETA, Wanyeki has worked at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology and served as a trainer at Kisiwa National Polytechnic, building a career across different areas of technical education and skills development.

TVETA Board Chairperson Kellen Kiambati expressed confidence that Wanyeki’s experience and understanding of the sector would support the authority’s strategic priorities.

She noted that his extensive experience and deep understanding of the TVET sector would be instrumental in strengthening the quality, relevance and credibility of Kenya’s TVET system.

The authority also acknowledged the contribution of Timothy Nyongesa Katiambo, commending him for his dedicated service and leadership while serving as Acting Director General.

In congratulating Wanyeki, the board expressed optimism that he would work closely with the authority’s management and staff to strengthen its operations and advance the government’s skills development agenda.

“The Board congratulates Wanyeki on his appointment and wishes him success as he leads TVETA’s Management and staff in fulfilling the Authority’s mandate and supporting the Government’s skills development and economic transformation agenda,” the statement further read.

Wanyeki’s appointment comes as technical and vocational education continues to play a significant role in equipping learners with practical skills and preparing the workforce for the country’s evolving labour market needs.
