NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 29 – Project Management Institute (PMI) and TIME Studios have released the second season of The Solutionaries, a documentary series featuring projects aimed at addressing climate change and how they are implemented at scale.

The three-episode series follows teams working on sustainability in the music industry, reducing emissions from shipping and developing artificial intelligence infrastructure.

The episodes feature Adam Gardner and Lauren Sullivan of REVERB, Alisha Fredriksson of Seabound and Kate Kallot of Amini. They examine how the teams turn ideas into practical solutions through planning, funding, testing and implementation.

PMI says the series comes as organisations face growing pressure to deliver sustainable changes, although many are yet to integrate sustainability into their projects and operations.

A recent PMI report found that 59 percent of organisations are struggling to fully integrate sustainability at project and functional levels.

“Projects are how great ideas become real, and the professionals who lead them make that possible,” said PMI Chief Marketing Officer Menaka Gopinath.

The REVERB episode follows the non-profit’s work with musicians, tours and festivals to reduce the environmental impact of live music. Founded in 2004, the organisation says it has worked on 400 tours, engaged fans in more than 8.6 million environmental actions and helped eliminate more than 4.6 million single-use plastic bottles.

Seabound, a startup focused on maritime emissions, has developed a carbon capture system installed on ships’ exhaust stacks. The company says its technology can capture up to 95 percent of carbon dioxide and sulphur emissions from engine exhaust.

The third episode features Amini, which develops artificial intelligence infrastructure to help countries in the Global South manage and use their own data.

Founded in 2022 by Kate Kallot, the company says it operates in about a dozen countries and has digitised more than 10 million historical and institutional records. It has also trained 15,000 data scientists and developers.

In Barbados, Amini has established a national AI system used by the Prime Minister and government, with services available to citizens in more than 90 languages.

The series was produced in partnership with TIME Studios and Good is the New Cool, and directed by Edward Buckles Jr.

All three episodes of Season 2 are available on TIME’s website.
