The SportPesa League title race is beginning to gather momentum after a dramatic round of fixtures on Sunday, November 1, 2026, with Robert Matano’s side, KCB, delivering one of the weekend’s biggest statements, by defeating defending champions Gor Mahia 2-1.

The result at the end of the fifth round of matches handed Gor Mahia a setback in their race for another league title, while giving KCB a major boost, as they strengthened their position among the leading contenders in the 2026/27 season.

The Bankers victory was particularly significant, considering Gor Mahia had started the weekend at the summit, with 12 points from four wins in five matches.

Despite the defeat, the 22 times record champions, remain top of the standings with 12 points, with their advantage being reduced to just two points.

KCB’s victory was even more impressive by finishing the match with 10 men after Baron Ochieng received a second Yellow Card in the 86th minute.

The Bankers had taken control through Batshi Assis, who opened the scoring in the 20th minute, before Richard Omondi doubled their advantage shortly after the half-hour mark.

Gor Mahia responded through Alpha Onyango, who converted a penalty five minutes later, to reduce the deficit.

However, despite creating several crucial chances in the second half, the hosts could not find an equaliser. Onyango came so close when his long-range effort struck the woodwork.

Elsewhere, AFC Leopards continued their run with an impressive 2-0 victory over Kakamega Homeboyz in the Ingo Derby. The victory lifted Ingwe to third place with nine points, keeping them firmly within reach of the leading positions.

Migori Youth also enjoyed a successful afternoon after recording a convincing 2-0 win, crucial three points, against Mombasa United, further strengthening their position with six points from four matches.

At another venue, APS Bomet and Murang’a Seal shared the spoils following a goalless draw, while Nairobi United and Bandari settled for a 1-1 stalemate in a closely contested meetup.

The latest standings leave Gor Mahia at the top with 12 points, followed by KCB on 10 and AFC Leopards on nine. Murang’a Seal occupy fourth position with seven points, while APS Bomet, Migori Youth, Mara Sugar and Shabana are tied on six points.

The bottom end of the table remains equally competitive, with Tusker on three points, Ulinzi Stars on two and Mombasa United struggling at the foot with just one point.

With several fixtures still scheduled for Monday, November 2, the standings could experience further changes as teams seek to improve their positions.

As the campaign unfolds, KCB have sent a strong message to their title rivals, while Gor Mahia must quickly rediscover their winning rhythm.

For AFC Leopards, the latest victory offers renewed hope of mounting a serious challenge for the championship.

The 2026/27 campaign is still at its early stage, but the emerging battle at the league promises an intriguing season for Kenyan football.
