The government has initiated investigations to establish alleged sexual exploitation, especially for women seeking employment at the Konza Technopolis City in Mukaa, Makueni County.
The investigation has been launched following claims made by local residents, including the Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr., who has since asked the concerned authorities to take action.
The issue is further compounded by clips doing rounds in the social media on the same allegations.
The revelations were made by the Makueni County Commissioner (CC), Khalif Abdullahi, during Mashujaa Day celebrations at Nziu Primary and Junior School in Makueni Sub-county.
Abdullahi noted that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Makueni County had taken-up the matter to ensure those who found culpable are arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
“This is a serious matter. We have been informed that if you want employment at Konza Technopolis City, you either give a bribe or as a woman you give yourself,” regretted Abdullahi.
“We have started investigations, anybody found culpable will be arrested. This is corruption, this is bribery and that is exploitation. We will not accept this. If need be, we shall involve the Anti-corruption commission,” he warned.
The CC said Konza Technopolis City is a place the national government has invested heavily to ensure the youths get jobs, noting that no form of exploitation should be allowed at the facility.
Speaking at the same event, Makueni County Women Representative, Rose Museo, said that issues of Gender-Based Violence had reduced in the region.
She attributed this positive development to more cases being reported to the police that ensured prosecution takes place, unlike in the past when there were kangaroo courts.
However, Museo advised women to stop quarreling their husbands, while also urging men to exercise patience whenever they are angered, so as to avoid conflicts in their families.
“Issues of Gender-Based Violence has gone down. This is because many cases are being reported to the police as opposed to kangaroo courts that used to hinder any prosecution,” said Museo.
