Tharaka-Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki has dismissed as political propaganda claims that he is hiding from police, saying he cannot be intimidated.

Njuki spoke in Kambandi, Mugwe Ward, during the distribution of certified seeds to farmers under the 13th season of the Certified Seeds Programme, days after the Senate Standing Committee on Education directed Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to issue a warrant of arrest against him over his repeated failure to honour the committee’s summons.

The governor said the claims were politically motivated and maintained that he could not be intimidated, as he announced his intention to vie for the Tharaka-Nithi senatorial seat in the 2027 General Election.

On development, Njuki pledged to improve healthcare services in the county by putting up outpatient blocks at dispensaries and upgrading them to health centres.

He also announced that Mpukoni Health Centre would be upgraded to a Level Four facility.

Njuki further pledged to provide Mwiru dairy farmers with a milk cooler to support milk preservation.

Turning to national politics, the governor urged residents to support President Dr. William Ruto and Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki in the 2027 General Election.

He said supporting the duo in the 2027 polls would help pave the way for Prof. Kindiki to become president in 2032.

Njuki also urged residents to adequately prepare for the upcoming rains, saying supporting farmers was key to improving food security.

“Farmers have a critical role to play in strengthening food security. I urge our people to make good use of the expected rains by preparing their farms early so as to improve agricultural production,” he said.

The County Assembly Speaker John Mbabu described agriculture as a key pillar of the local economy, urging residents to take advantage of the expected rains by preparing their farms early to boost food production and improve household incomes.
