Magumoni Member of County Assembly (MCA) Justin Kithinji has declared his intention to contest the Chuka-Igambang’ombe parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election, pledging to promote development and ensure equitable distribution of resources across the constituency.
Speaking at Chuka DCC grounds during the declaration, Kithinji said his experience in county leadership had enabled him to understand the challenges facing residents and prepared him to represent their interests at the national level.
He said he had development plans for the constituency and would prioritise the welfare of residents if elected Member of Parliament.
Kithinji, who is also the Tharaka-Nithi County Assembly Majority Leader, had previously been urged by residents from different parts of the constituency to seek the parliamentary seat, citing his engagement with the community, support for youth initiatives and experience in county leadership.
During an earlier meeting at his home, residents said they wanted a leader who would bring people together, listen to their concerns and spearhead development initiatives across the constituency.
At the declaration event, youth representative Muthomi Mbaka urged Kithinji to prioritise education if elected, saying greater investment in education and skills development would create more opportunities for young people.
Mbaka called for increased support for students and youth through initiatives aimed at improving access to education and equipping young people with relevant skills.
Kinyua Ireri from Kamwimbi said Kithinji should ensure residents from all parts of the constituency benefited equitably from development programmes.
Ireri said fair distribution of development opportunities would help unite residents and ensure that no area or group was left behind.
During the earlier meeting, residents also cited Kithinji’s support for youth football tournaments in Magumoni and other parts of the constituency, saying the initiative had provided an avenue for engaging young people.
The event also featured prayers for Kithinji as he embarked on his political journey.
Albert Gitonga Rugamba, a moderator with the Kenya Region Baptist Churches, said major undertakings should begin with prayer and called for God’s guidance as Kithinji pursued the parliamentary seat.
