Migori Youth Football Club has played a goalless draw with Nairobi-based Mathare United at Awendo Green Stadium.
Migori Youth welcomed Mathare Youth on Saturday evening, hoping to register their first-ever win in the Kenya Premier League (KPL), but their opponents ensured the match ended in a barren draw.
Mathare United created more chances to score with two clear missed chances, but the home team ensured the game ended goalless.
However, Migori Youth showed a lot of potential by matching the results with Mathare United, a team that has played 27 seasons in the top flight and won one KPL Championship.
The results place Migori Youth in position 12 in the KPL with two draws in two games.
The newly promoted Migori Youth, coached by Salim Babu, will however taste the toughness of the KPL in three of its away games, starting with two of its neighbours: Shabana FC on October 28 and Mara Sugar FC on November 7, before visiting Ulinzi Stars.
During the post-match interview, Babu said that the team will correct some of the mistakes made in the Mathare match as they prepare to play Shabana FC in Nakuru.
“We will continue to grow as a team and learn from each game to ensure that we get positive results in every KPL game we play,” said Babu.
In the first match Migori Youth were held to a home 1-1 results when they played with Kenya Police FC.
Migori Youth made history in the National Super League (NSL) season of 2025/26 when they finished first after spending 8 seasons in the Kenyan second division.
The Migori-based team will be relying on their experienced coach, Babu, who has managed top-flight clubs in the KPL, including Kenya Police, Nairobi City Stars, Sony Sugar, Western Stima and Nzoia Sugar, to stay up when the curtains close for the 2026/27 season.
