The National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) National Board has launched construction of a Sh7 million police station at Madiany Trading Centre in Rarieda Constituency, Siaya County.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony , NG-CDF National Board Chief Executive Officer Benjamin Magut said construction of the facility is expected to be completed within 20 weeks.

The new police station is the second project undertaken by the NG-CDF National Board in Rarieda Sub-County in the last two financial years, following the completion of a similar facility at Riat Kolemo Trading Centre at a cost of Sh16 million.

“In the last eight years, the NG-CDF Board has constructed 14 police stations across the country, with two of them being in Rarieda Sub-County at a total cost of Sh23 million,” said Magut.

Magut said the NG-CDF National Board had made a deliberate decision to support additional projects in Rarieda Sub-County in honour of area MP Dr Otiende Amollo, who he said had stood firm against efforts to disband the NG-CDF.

“You all know that the courts have declared NG-CDF unconstitutional and we were to close shop on June 30, 2026. But thanks to lawyers led by Dr Otiende Amollo, who offered their pro bono services to defend NG-CDF, we are here today, although the Court of Appeal is yet to give its ruling on the matter, which Otiende Amollo and his team are still defending,” said Magut.

The CEO further revealed that, besides the two police station projects, Rarieda Sub-County would benefit from an additional Sh8 million project of Amollo’s choice, funded by the NG-CDF National Board.

Magut directed the contractor to hire locals as manual labourers and complete the project within the deadline.

Dr Amollo said the two police station projects undertaken by the NG-CDF Board would enhance security and boost trade in the region.

He said the Sh7 million police station at Madiany would replace the current facility, which was constructed in 1976 and is now in a dilapidated state.

“Our officers at Madiany Police Station have been working in inhumane conditions and an unconducive environment. The new facility will motivate them to deliver better services to our people,” said Amollo.

The MP said his mission to revive Madiany Trading Centre, which was struggling following the collapse of the cotton industry in the 1980s, was gradually taking shape through the construction of various public facilities.

He cited the modern law courts already operational at a cost of Sh40 million from the Judiciary, the Sh900 million Level Four Madiany Hospital constructed with support from the Ministry of Health, and the anticipated construction of offices for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

He also said tenders had been awarded for upgrading the Gagra-Madiany-Ndigwa-Gudwa road to bitumen standards, a move expected to improve transport and trade in the area.
