Police in Ngong have proposed introducing dog patrols in Umoja, Gichagi, and surrounding areas of Ngong to strengthen security, alongside restrictions on the movement of children below 18 years at night.
Ngong Police Station Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Jacob Ndunda said minors should not be found roaming the streets after 10pm, urging parents and guardians to ensure their children remain indoors at night.
“Children below the age of 18 should not be roaming the streets past 10pm,” Ndunda said during a baraza.
The proposed dog patrols are expected to support police operations in the area, including tracking suspects and responding to security incidents.
However, the OCS did not provide a timeline for the introduction of the patrols
Gichagi resident Mark Kamau welcomed the proposed measures, saying improved security would help residents feel safer in their neighbourhood.
“Security is important to everyone living here. We hope the police will work closely with residents to address the challenges affecting the area and ensure that the measures introduced bring meaningful change,” Kamau said.
The proposals come amid efforts to enhance public safety in Gichagi, although the specific security concerns prompting the measures were not immediately established.
The OCS noted that police-community cooperation and clear implementation guidelines will be important in determining the effectiveness of the proposed interventions.
