People’s Party of Kenya (PPK) leader and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has pledged to prioritise education, agriculture, manufacturing and tourism as key pillars of the party’s agenda if elected to lead the country in 2028.
Speaking during a media engagement in Chuka, Tharaka-Nithi County, Mr. Nyoro said PPK was gaining support in Tharaka-Nithi and neighbouring Meru County, where several aspirants were seeking elective positions on the party’s ticket.
He said education would be at the centre of the party’s agenda, citing initiatives implemented in his Kiharu Constituency as evidence that affordable education could be achieved.
“We want education to be a priority in Kenya, just like what I have done in Kiharu,” Mr. Nyoro said.
He said learners in public day secondary schools in Kiharu pay Sh500 per term, adding that the model had demonstrated that it was possible to reduce the financial burden on families.
Mr. Nyoro said PPK would seek to introduce free senior secondary education from January 2028 if given an opportunity to implement its agenda.
“Through that formula, we have seen that it is possible for the People’s Party to give Kenyans basic education from January 2028,” he said.
He described education as a critical issue for the country and families, saying increased investment in the sector would expand opportunities for young people.
Mr. Nyoro said the party would also prioritise economic development, with a focus on manufacturing, hospitality and tourism as key sectors for job creation.
He said PPK would seek to increase annual tourist arrivals to Kenya to 10 million, arguing that expanding the tourism sector would create more employment opportunities for Kenyans.
“We are focusing a lot on economic issues, manufacturing, hospitality and tourism, with a target of increasing the number of tourists coming to Kenya to 10 million,” he said.
On agriculture, Mr. Nyoro said PPK would seek to strengthen the sector, noting that Kenya’s economy was largely agriculture-based.
He said the party’s agenda would focus on improving farming and increasing agricultural productivity to enhance the livelihoods of farmers.
Mr. Nyoro said PPK was positioning itself as a regional party with growing support beyond its traditional areas, adding that it was establishing structures and mobilising members across the country.
He said the party’s plans would be implemented if Kenyans gave it an opportunity to lead the country in 2028.
