Former Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) chairperson Macharia Njeru has declared his bid to unseat President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
His declaration comes as Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and other presidential candidates continue mobilizing voters ahead of the elections.
Njeru made the official announcement on October 5, 2026, describing his bid as the start of a new journey.
“The journey begins. Today, I officially announce my bid for the Presidency of the Republic of Kenya,” Njeru stated.

Sifuna’s Presidential Bid
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has taken over the leadership of The Equitable Party (TEP) as he prepares to contest the presidency in the 2027 General Election against President William Ruto.
Sifuna was unveiled as the party’s leader and presidential candidate on Sunday, October 4, 2026, during a political gathering in Nairobi attended by several leaders supporting his presidential bid.
However, Sifuna’s presidential bid has been developing under the Linda Mwananchi Movement, which endorsed him as its preferred presidential candidate in September.
The Nairobi senator earlier announced his intention to challenge Ruto in the 2027 presidential election, setting the stage for his bid for the presidency.
During the October 4 meeting, political figures including Siaya Governor James Orengo, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino were present.
Others associated with the presidential contest include former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa.
