Kristian Tiren emerged the overall winner of the Absa @ 100 Eldoret Golf Tournament after returning an impressive 41 points in a competitive contest that attracted 108 golfers at Eldoret Club on Saturday.
Tiren, a Moiben resident playing off handicap 17, topped the leaderboard to claim the coveted title in the tournament organised by Absa Bank Kenya as part of celebrations marking its 100 years of operations in Eldoret.
In Division One, Ken Serem emerged the winner with 39 points, while Wilson Kwambai finished second with 37 points.
Edwin Cherop claimed the Division Two title after posting 37 points, with Nick Murrey finishing as runner-up.
The tournament brought together a diverse field of participants, including business leaders, customers, partners and other stakeholders. Among those in attendance were Absa Bank Kenya Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Yusuf Omari and Business Banking Director Renato D’Souza.
Speaking after his victory, Tiren expressed delight at winning the tournament, describing the competition as demanding given the strong field and challenging playing conditions.
He said maintaining consistency and concentration throughout the competition had been crucial to his success, adding that he had not expected to emerge as the overall winner.
Tiren commended Absa Bank Kenya for organising the tournament, saying it was a fitting way to celebrate the bank’s centenary in Eldoret.
Omari said the tournament provided an opportunity for the bank to strengthen relationships with customers, business partners and the wider community beyond its traditional banking services.
He noted that Absa’s 100-year presence in Eldoret had been built on longstanding partnerships with individuals and businesses across the region.
Omari reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting economic growth and prosperity, adding that sporting activities such as golf provided an important platform for networking, collaboration and strengthening community relationships.
Eldoret Club Chairman Dr Neelesh Aggarwal thanked Absa Bank Kenya for sponsoring the tournament, noting that corporate partnerships were essential in promoting sports and creating opportunities for golfers.
Aggarwal said sponsorship enabled clubs to organise competitive events, nurture emerging talent and encourage wider participation in golf.
The tournament was part of a week-long programme of activities marking Absa’s century-long presence in Eldoret, bringing together customers, employees, business leaders and community stakeholders to celebrate the bank’s longstanding relationship with the region.
The celebrations also featured the inaugural Absa City Run in Eldoret on Sunday, further demonstrating the bank’s commitment to community engagement through sporting activities.
The events highlighted Absa’s recognition of Eldoret’s contribution to its history while reaffirming its commitment to strengthening partnerships and supporting the region’s future growth.
