The Uasin Gishu Water and Sanitation Company (URWASCO) is preparing to hold public participation forums across the county from November 4 to 6, 2026, to discuss the proposed takeover of management of community water projects.
The exercise seeks to inform residents about the company’s operations and the proposed management arrangement while giving community members a platform to air their views and concerns.
Preparations were reviewed on Wednesday during a coordination meeting in Eldoret City attended by ward and sub-county administrators.
The meeting was chaired by URWASCO Managing Director Caroline Ngerechi, with Director of Public Participation David Barno and other company staff present.
“We want every resident to understand who we are, how we operate, and what the proposed management of community water projects would mean for them,” Ngerechi said.
“This is not a top-down decision. We are creating space for genuine dialogue so that community voices shape the way forward,” she explained.
Barno emphasised the importance of structured engagement.
“Public participation is not a formality. It is the foundation of transparent decision-making. These forums will allow residents to raise questions, share experiences and contribute ideas that will inform the proposed transition,” he said.
Officials said the sessions will help residents better understand URWASCO’s mandate and the potential implications of bringing community water projects under its management.
The company also aims to strengthen its relationship with communities and promote greater awareness of its role in water service provision across Uasin Gishu County.
The forums are expected to foster openness and ensure that any future arrangements reflect the interests and concerns of the people who depend on these water projects.
