A high-speed police chase through Kisumu ended in a crash near Oile Park, leading to the arrest of two robbery suspects and the recovery of a pistol and three mobile phones.
The suspects were arrested after the black Toyota Prado they were travelling in crashed into an electric pole while attempting to evade detectives from Kisumu Central.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the operation followed a report by a woman who said she and her friends had been robbed of five mobile phones by people travelling in a black Toyota Prado.
“Armed with actionable intelligence, detectives swung into action, trailing down the vehicle believed to be connected to the robbery,” the DCI said in a statement.
Detectives later traced the vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the driver allegedly ignored their orders and sped off, triggering a chase through the town.
Officers eventually shot at the vehicle’s tyres, puncturing them near Oile Park. The driver then lost control, sending the Prado crashing into an electric pole and damaging its front-right side.
The two suspects were arrested as they attempted to flee from the wreckage.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a black pistol and three mobile phones, which were detained as exhibits to support investigations.
Detectives are investigating whether the suspects were involved in other robberies reported in different parts of Kisumu and its surroundings.
The suspects remain in police custody as officers complete processing ahead of their arraignment in court.
The DCI said it remained committed to fighting crime and dismantling criminal networks that threaten public safety.
Members of the public have been urged to report criminal activities anonymously through the toll-free number 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp number 0709 570 000.
Police have also urged residents to remain vigilant and share information that could help detectives identify and arrest other suspects linked to the robberies.
