Police have arrested two suspected drug traffickers and seized more than 25kg of cannabis sativa in separate operations in Kiambu and Bungoma counties.
The National Police Service (NPS) said the arrests were made during an ongoing crackdown on illicit drugs and brews aimed at dismantling drug trafficking networks across the country.
In Kiambu county, officers from Juja police station intercepted a motor vehicle in the KK Towers area of Juja Town.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of about 20kg of cannabis sativa, commonly known as bhang. The driver was arrested, while the seized narcotics were secured as exhibits.
In a separate operation in Bungoma county, police arrested another suspect following a tip-off from a member of the public.
Officers searched a rental residence at Kamukuywa Market in Kimilili Sub-County, where they recovered bhang stored in two green sacks and a blue basin. Four packets of rolling papers and a rolling stick were also seized.
The suspect was escorted to Bungoma police station for processing ahead of arraignment in court.
The NPS commended members of the public for providing information that helped officers intercept the narcotics and arrest the suspects.
“The National Police Service extends its gratitude to members of the public whose timely information directly contributed to these successful seizures,” the service said.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to combating drug trafficking, stating that “operations targeting the elimination of illicit drug networks across the country will continue unabated.”
The service urged Kenyans to report suspected drug-related activities to the nearest police station or through emergency toll-free numbers 999 and 911.
Members of the public can also share information through the Fichua Kwa DCI hotline on 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp number 0709 570 000.
