Detectives have arrested two additional suspects in connection with the murder of a 65-year-old woman who was killed inside her home in Kithoka Village, Meru county, in August.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the latest arrests followed investigations that linked the two suspects to an alleged plot to eliminate the woman over a longstanding land dispute.

According to the agency, the suspects allegedly conspired to have the woman killed before hiring a man who was arrested earlier to execute the murder.

“The latest arrests follow investigations that established that the suspects conspired to eliminate the deceased over a longstanding land dispute before hiring the first suspect to execute the murder,” the DCI stated

The two suspects, who were arrested following further investigations, are alleged to have maintained contact with each other both before and after the incident.

Investigators believe the communication pointed to prior planning and coordination in the commission of the crime.

The arrests bring to three the number of suspects apprehended in connection with the killing, following the arrest of the alleged gunman on September 22.

The 65-year-old woman was murdered at approximately 7.20pm on August 7, 2026, while preparing supper alongside her 13-year-old grandson inside her home.

The DCI said the assailants struck as the two were in the house, leaving the woman dead.

The two latest suspects have since been arraigned in court, where investigators obtained orders for them to be detained pending a mental assessment.

They are expected to take plea on November 4, 2026.

The latest arrests come as detectives continue to pursue additional leads to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and identify any other people who may have been involved.

The DCI said investigations were ongoing as officers worked to ensure that all those implicated in the murder were brought to justice.

“Investigations remain ongoing as detectives pursue additional leads to establish the full circumstances surrounding the murder and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice,” the agency said.

The authority also extended its condolences to the family, friends and relatives of the deceased following the killing.

It urged members of the public with information that could assist ongoing investigations to share it through its reporting channels.
