Detectives in Meru County have arrested two additional suspects believed to be the masterminds behind the tragic murder of 65-year-old Evelyne Mukiri Mbaabu.
Mbaabu was killed inside her home in Kithoka Village on August 7, 2026, at approximately 7:20 p.m. while preparing supper alongside her 13-year-old grandson.
According to investigators, the newly apprehended suspects have been identified as Godwin Kimathi, the deceased’s brother, and Beth Muthomi, who is the sister to the first suspect and sister-in-law to the deceased.
Police investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly conspired to eliminate Mbaabu over a longstanding land dispute.
They reportedly hired the first suspect, Solomon Kathurima Kairemia, to execute the murder.
Investigators established that the suspects maintained regular contact both before and after the attack, pointing to careful prior planning and coordination.
This latest breakthrough builds on the initial arrest of Solomon Kathurima Kairemia on September 22, 2026, following intensive police investigations into the killing.
The two newly arrested suspects have since been arraigned in court, where orders were issued for them to be remanded pending a mental assessment.
They are scheduled to take a plea on November 4, 2026.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has extended its condolences to the family, friends, and relatives of the late Evelyne Mukiri Mbaabu.
Meanwhile, investigations remain ongoing as detectives pursue additional leads to uncover all circumstances surrounding the murder and ensure everyone involved faces justice.
