Meta has rolled out a new school partnership program for Instagram, designed to directly help educators report potential teen safety issues, including bullying.
The school was established after listening to parents, hence creating tools, like the School Partnership Program and Teen Accounts, that help keep kids stay safe online.
“For teachers and educators who are also grappling with how who are also grappling with how to help teens navigate social media, we hope this program provides an additional way to help them tackle bullying and online safety issues,” Meta said.
Curriculum is Tried and Tested
Further, Meta said that the Curriculum was tried and tested by a school partnership program in the International Society for Technology in Education.
It produced promising results in addressing more teen safety issues in schools.
The resources will be available for free to schools, parents, and organizations, aiming to equip young users with the knowledge to navigate online spaces safely.
Recently, Meta introduced Instagram teen accounts to offer a new experience for teens guided by parents.
Teen accounts were designed to give parents peace of mind that their teens are having safe, age-appropriate experiences on Instagram, with built-in protections turned on automatically.
Role of Meta in Streamlining Social Media Platforms
Meta acknowledged the role that teachers and educators, along with parents, play in helping teens navigate online spaces.
However, social media can be a distraction in school, which is why they are providing parents with simple ways to block their teens from using Instagram during school hours.
These protections help limit unwanted contact and inappropriate content, as well as bullying and harassment.
Restrictive Measures for TikTok Users
Recently, TikTok expanded parental controls and well-being tools designed to help families have healthier digital habits for teens.
Accounts are private by default, to limit who can follow the account, view their videos, read their bio, and interact with their videos.
In addition, there will be no direct messaging. Direct messaging is only available to accounts 16 and older.
Friends-only comment settings will also ensure that teens under 16 cannot change their comment permissions to allow ‘Everyone’ to comment on their content.
Teens will not download videos. This control is set to Off by default and cannot be changed, even if a teen chooses to have a public account.
