Egerton University has rolled out a new Parents Portal that allows parents, guardians, and sponsors to access important information about their students, including academic information.
Egerton announced the platform on August 18, describing it as an opportunity for parents and sponsors to become more involved in their students’ academic progress.
“The Parents Portal is an exciting opportunity for parents/guardians/sponsors to become more involved in their student(s) academic progress,” read part of the statement.
Through the portal, parents can view a student’s registration number, academic programme and other general information.
The platform also provides access to the student’s fee structure, showing the amount payable during a given financial period.
Parents can further access provisional examination results, allowing them to monitor their students’ academic performance while at the university.
The accommodation section displays details such as the student’s allocated block, room and bed number, and the semester for which accommodation has been paid.

Once logged in, parents, guardians and sponsors can access the student’s academic performance, including provisional examination results and semester grades when released.
The portal also provides financial information, allowing users to view the applicable fee structure, current fee balances and complete fee statements.
Through the student profile, users can access information such as the registration status, academic programme and other general student details.
The accommodation profile provides campus housing information, including the allocated hostel block, room number and bed number.
Users can also access official university communications, including announcements, deadlines and academic calendars.
How to Create an Account
First-time users are required to create an account by visiting the Egerton University Parents Portal.
They should click on “Create an Account” and provide their National ID or passport number, a valid email address, and the student’s registration number.
The account setup is then completed by following the instructions sent to the provided email address.
Parents or guardians with more than one student at Egerton University do not need to create separate accounts. They can log into their existing account and add the registration number of another student.
Students React
The announcement attracted positive and negative reactions from students and Kenyans, with several users praising the university for improving access to students’ academic and financial information.
Ronald Odiwuor described the move as commendable, noting that parents make sacrifices to support their children’s education and therefore need greater accountability and transparency.
“This’s a commendable move. Our parents sacrifice for us to be in school, so accountability and transparency are key,” Odiwuor said.
Meanwhile, Sheila Langat also welcomed the initiative, saying she wished the platform had been introduced during her time at the university.
“I support this 100%; how I wish this had been implemented during our time; I would have done better,” she said.
Other users also raised concerns about the portal, with Charloh Charloh saying, “This is a breach of confidentiality.”
Akungah o’Nyangeri questioned how the system would work, asking, “And when the parent is the student?”
