The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has uploaded the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificates to its e-certificate platform, allowing candidates to instantly access secure digital copies of their academic credentials.
In a notice on August 5, KNEC said all candidates who sat the 2025 KCSE examination can now download their official e-certificates through the online portal.
The council said the service allows candidates to access their certificates anytime and from anywhere, providing a convenient alternative to relying solely on physical certificates.
“2025 KCSE certificates are now available on the KNEC e-certificate platform. 2025 KCSE candidates can now instantly access a secure digital copy of their certificates, joining their counterparts from 1989–2024 already on the platform. Access your e-certificate anytime, anywhere,” stated KNEC.
The latest upload means the Class of 2025 joins candidates who completed KCSE between 1989 and 2024, whose certificates are already accessible through the digital platform.
How Candidates Can Download the Certificate
KNEC has advised candidates to begin by visiting https://ecertificate.knec.ac.ke and creating an account using their personal details.
To access the digital certificate, candidates must first create an account on the KNEC e-certificate platform using a valid email address.
During registration, they will be required to verify their identity using their National Identity Card details.
Candidates will be prompted to pay the required processing fee through the eCitizen platform. Once the payment has been confirmed, the digital KCSE certificate will be available for immediate download.
Candidates can then save the certificate on their devices or share it electronically whenever required for official purposes.
KNEC said the e-certificate is an official academic document issued directly by the council and carries the same authenticity as the physical certificate.
According to the council, the digital certificates are secured using blockchain technology, making them tamper-proof and enabling universities, employers and other institutions to verify their authenticity instantly.
The council noted that the e-certificate platform has been developed to make it easier for candidates to retrieve their academic credentials whenever they need them.
With the upload of the 2025 KCSE certificates, the platform now hosts certificates for all KCSE candidates who sat the examination between 1989 and 2025, allowing them to access their academic records online at any time.
KNEC New E-Certificate Platform
KNEC unveiled a new E-Certificate platform that will allow Kenyans to apply for, download, and verify KCSE certificates online.
The platform allows candidates who sat their examinations from 1989 onwards to generate digital certificates without visiting KNEC offices. To access the service, users are required to register through the KNEC website by selecting the appropriate account type. Students and alumni register as Applicants, while employers, universities and other institutions register as Verifier Organisations.
During registration, applicants provide their personal details and verify their email address using a One-Time Password (OTP). They are then required to complete their profiles by submitting information such as their National ID details, date of birth and contact information.
KNEC automatically verifies the applicant’s identity through the Integrated Population Registration System (IPRS) before allowing them to generate an e-certificate.
To obtain the certificate, users enter their examination index number, examination type, and the year they sat the examination. The system then checks whether the details match KNEC’s records before directing applicants to make payment through the eCitizen platform.
Once payment is confirmed, the e-certificate becomes available for download in PDF format and includes a unique blockchain verification code that enables employers and other institutions to confirm its authenticity online.
KNEC said the downloaded e-certificate remains available on the platform for six months, after which users will be required to generate a new copy by paying the applicable certificate generation fee.
