KUCCPS Cut-Off Points for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 13 Universities

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) sets cut-off points for various courses, including the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree programme offered in universities.

These cut-off points represent the minimum weighted cluster points attained by the last student admitted to each programme during the 2024 KUCCPS placement cycle.

The points will guide the 2026/2027 placement of 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates.

The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery is a full-time programme that takes six academic years, each comprising three semesters.

It is offered in 13 Kenyan universities.

Admission Requirements for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery

Admission is based on the minimum university entry requirements.

In addition, applicants must meet the enrolment requirements for the School of Medicine, which depend on the KCSE subject cluster.

Admission is based on the set minimum requirements for each programme.

(i) Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE):

Candidates must meet the general university admission criteria, including a minimum mean grade of C+ in KCSE and a mandatory B grade pass in each of the cluster subjects.

These subjects include Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and English or Kiswahili.

OR

(ii) Advanced Level Certificate:

Two principal passes at A Level, one in Biology and the other in Chemistry, and at least one subsidiary pass in Physics or Mathematics. Applicants must attach copies of both O Level and A Level transcripts.

OR

(iii) Diploma holders in Medical Sciences:

A minimum of KCE Division II or a C+ mean grade in KCSE, with C+ in the four cluster subjects.

OR

(iv) Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from a university recognised by the Senate.

Cut Off Points for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery 

The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery program remains highly competitive, with cut-off points used in the 2026 intake clustering mainly in the mid-40s, according to KUCCPS data.

The University of Nairobi leads at 44.926, followed closely by Kenyatta University at 44.904 and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) at 44.834.

Maseno University posts 44.602, while Egerton University and Mount Kenya University both record 44.504.

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology stands at 44.160, with Kisii University at 44.149.

Technical University of Mombasa ranks 43.734, while Kenya Methodist University and Pwani University rank 43.076 and 43.048, respectively.

Moi University posts 42.066, while Uzima University closes the list at 41.734.
