The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened a 30-day inter-institutional transfer application window for students recently placed in university and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes.

In a notice issued on Friday, July 17, KUCCPS invited eligible students who wish to change institutions to submit their applications through the KUCCPS Student Portal.

“2026 Inter-Institutional Transfer Application Were you recently placed in a university or TVET programme and wish to move to a different institution?” read part of the statement.

KUCCPS Announces 30-Day Transfer Window for Placed Students

The transfer exercise is open to students from the 2023, 2024 and 2025 KCSE cohorts who have already been placed in universities or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions but wish to move to another institution.

According to KUCCPS, applicants must meet the cut-off points for the programme they wish to transfer to, and transfers will only be approved where vacancies are available.

The application window will remain open until August 14, 2026.

How to Apply

  • Log in to the KUCCPS Student Portal using your KCSE index number, KCSE examination year, and your password, which is either your KCPE index number or birth certificate number.
  • Open the Transfer Application section by selecting the “Transfer Application” or “Transfers” tab on your dashboard.
  • Choose your preferred programme by entering the seven-character programme code for the university or TVET course you wish to join.
  • Provide a reason for the transfer, such as medical grounds, relocation or financial challenges, and upload any supporting documents where required.
  • Pay the KSh1,000 application fee through the KUCCPS portal via eCitizen/M-Pesa, then enter the payment reference code to complete and submit your application.

What Happens Next?

Once submitted, the transfer request undergoes several approval stages.

  • Receiving institution review: The institution the student wishes to join assesses the application through the KUCCPS portal. It may approve or reject the request based on programme requirements and available vacancies.
  • Revision if rejected: If the receiving institution declines the application, the student can select a different programme or institution and submit a new application within the transfer period.
  • Current institution approval: Once the receiving institution approves the request, it is forwarded to the student’s current (releasing) institution, which must also endorse the transfer through the KUCCPS system.
  • KUCCPS final review: After both institutions approve the transfer, KUCCPS conducts the final verification. Successful applicants can then download and print their transfer letters from the KUCCPS Student Portal.
