The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened its online application system for the first revision of placement choices to universities and colleges for the 2026/2027 academic cycle.

The revision window targets applicants who did not secure courses during the initial application period, which closed on May 6, 2026.

The second window is also expected to benefit candidates who wish to revise their course choices in line with their academic performance and career aspirations.

KUCCPS Reopens Portal for University and College Applications

On Saturday, May 16, in the morning, KUCCPS began sending notifications of course application rejections to select students who did not qualify for their chosen courses.

These candidates have been invited to log back in to the system and select from the programs listed on the KUCCPS portal.

Form Four leavers who attained qualifying mean grades in the KCSE examinations but have not yet applied for placement are urged to submit their applications during the revision period.

Applicants are required to visit the KUCCPS website, students.kuccps.net, and access the Student’s Portal to complete their applications.

The revision exercise will run from May 16, to May 22.

Target Group

The first revision of the choices targets:

  • Form Four leavers who applied for Degree, Diploma, and Certificate programmes between January and May 2026 but were unsuccessful. These applicants have already been notified via SMS and through the Student’s Portal.
  • Candidates who attained a mean grade of C+ and above in the 2025 KCSE examination but have not applied for Degree or TVET courses.
  • Past KCSE candidates from the year 2000 to 2025 who have not enrolled in any tertiary institution through KUCCPS.

Eligibility Criteria

  • 2025 KCSE candidates: C+ and above – eligible for Degree programmes
  • 2000–2025 KCSE candidates (C to E): Eligible for TVET programmes (Level 6/Diploma, Level 5/Craft Certificate, Level 4/Artisan Certificate)
  • 2000–2025 KCSE candidates (C+ and above): Eligible for Open University of Kenya Degree programmes

According to KUCCPS, about 207,308 out of 268,714 candidates who attained the minimum university entry grade of C+, representing 77 percent, had successfully submitted their applications by the morning of May 6.

Tips on Successful Application

KUCCPS has also advised students applying for admission to universities, colleges, and TVET institutions to ensure their cluster weights are above the set cut-off points in order to improve their chances of securing placement in their preferred programmes.

The Placement Service noted that applicants whose cluster weights exceed previous cut-off points stand a better chance of admission if they apply for those programmes.

“It is advised that you apply for courses where your cluster weight is higher than the previous year’s cut-off points,” KUCCPS said.

“Applicants whose cluster weight is above the previous cut-off points have a good chance of securing placement in that programme.”

Cluster weight refers to the ranking of a student’s performance in a specific subject cluster against other candidates in a given KCSE cohort.
