The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has broken down the distribution of 20,000 Junior School teaching positions across the country, with all 47 counties receiving a share of the recruitment ahead of the August 31, 2026 deadline.
According to the distribution released on August 18, Kakamega County received the highest allocation with 994 positions, followed by Kitui with 959.
Bungoma and Nakuru each received 800 positions, while Machakos and Makueni were allocated 693 and 691 positions, respectively.
Meru received 678 positions, followed by Kisii with 668, Homa Bay with 642, and Narok with 617.
Other counties with more than 500 positions include Migori (575), Nandi (573), Nairobi (566), Kilifi (565), Kiambu (562), Siaya (532), Kisumu (529), Bomet (526), and Murang’a (507).
Counties receiving between 400 and 500 positions include Kericho (486), Uasin Gishu (445), Busia (443), West Pokot (405), and Baringo (402).
Nyeri received 359 positions, while Nyamira, Kwale and Kajiado received 352, 350 and 348 positions, respectively. Vihiga was allocated 343 positions, followed by Trans Nzoia with 334, Tharaka Nithi with 327, Nyandarua with 321, Embu with 318, and Elgeyo Marakwet with 316.
Among counties with fewer than 300 positions, Laikipia received 225, Turkana 223, Kirinyaga 218, Taita Taveta 186, Mandera 158, Mombasa 153, and Marsabit 141.
The lowest allocations were recorded in Tana River with 124 positions, Garissa with 117, Samburu with 103, Lamu with 90, and Isiolo with 84. Wajir received 152 positions.

Scoring Criteria for JSS Teachers
TSC has set out a 100-mark scoring system for candidates seeking the 20,000 Junior School teaching positions on Permanent and Pensionable terms.
Candidates will earn up to 3 marks for academic and professional qualifications. Those with First Class Honours or Distinction will receive 3 marks, while Second Class or Credit will attract 2 marks and a Pass will earn 1 mark.
Age will account for 7 marks. Candidates aged 50 years and above will receive 7 marks; those aged 45 to 49 years will earn 5 marks, while candidates aged 44 years and below will receive 3 marks.
The length of time since graduation will account for 20 marks. Candidates who qualified in 2010 or earlier will receive the maximum 20 marks. The score will reduce by one mark for each subsequent year, with those who qualified in 2025 earning 5 marks and those who graduated in 2026 receiving 4 marks.
The largest share of the score, 70 marks, will be awarded based on TSC internship experience. Teachers who have served continuously as TSC interns for 12 months or more in a sub-county will receive 70 marks, while those who have served for less than 12 months will receive 50 marks.
The four categories add up to a maximum of 100 marks, which will determine candidates’ scores during the recruitment selection process.
In the event of a tie in the aggregate scores, the Selection Panel will use a set of preference criteria to determine the order of priority.
Priority will first be given to the candidate with the longest length of stay since graduation. If the tie persists, the panel will consider the quality of the academic certificates presented by the candidates.
The panel will then consider the quality of professional certificates if there is still no clear distinction. Where candidates remain tied, the panel will finally consider their individual subject grades to determine priority.
