UK Announces Fully Funded 2027 Scholarships for Kenyans: How to Apply

The United Kingdom (UK) has opened applications for the prestigious Chevening Scholarships, offering fully funded study opportunities to Kenyan scholars.

The scholarship supports individuals pursuing a master’s degree at universities across the United Kingdom.

“Applications for Chevening Scholarships are now open! Could you be Kenya’s next Chevening Scholar?” part of the announcement read.

Applicants may choose from a wide range of eligible courses, provided they meet the programme’s requirements.

Most Chevening Scholarships cover one academic year, depending on the duration of the selected course. Applications for the 2027/2028 intake will close on October 6, 2026.

UK Invites Kenyans to Apply for 2027/2028 Fully Funded Chevening Scholarships

The Chevening Scholarship provides full financial support for successful applicants pursuing a master’s degree in the United Kingdom.

The award covers:

• Full tuition fees for the selected course.
• Return economy airfare between the recipient’s home country and the UK via an approved route.
• An arrival allowance to help with initial settling-in costs.
• The full cost of a UK visa application.
• A departure allowance at the end of the programme.
• A contribution of up to £75 towards tuberculosis (TB) testing where required.
• A travel top-up allowance for eligible travel-related expenses.
• A monthly living allowance (stipend) to cover accommodation and daily expenses. The amount varies depending on whether the scholar is studying in London or elsewhere in the UK and is reviewed annually.

Eligibility and Criteria

To qualify for a Chevening Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Be a citizen of a country or territory eligible for the Chevening Scholarship programme.
• If applying from an Official Development Assistance (ODA)-eligible country, reside in an ODA-eligible country and demonstrate a clear commitment to contributing to that country’s development after completing the scholarship.
• Commit to returning to their home country for at least two years after completing the scholarship.
• Have at least two years of work experience obtained after completing an undergraduate degree, equivalent to 2,800 hours.
• Hold an undergraduate degree that meets the entry requirements for a UK master’s programme. Applicants must have completed their undergraduate studies at least two years before the application deadline, even if they have not yet received their degree certificate. However, the certificate must be available by the time of the interview.
• Apply to three eligible UK master’s programmes and secure an unconditional offer from at least one of them by the deadline set out in the Chevening application timeline.

How to Apply

Follow the application steps below to submit your Chevening Scholarship application.

1. Choose your country from https://www.chevening.org/apply/, then choose the Chevening Scholarship. All Chevening applications must be submitted through the official online application system.  During the application window, you can access the system by clicking the ‘Apply Today’ link on the application page specific to your home country or territory.
2. Create an account.
3. Fill your profile with your personal information, save the data and validate your profile, then start your application.
4. Complete the quiz to ensure your eligibility for the Scholarship.
5. Fill out the application with the required data and prepare the following documents:

• Completed education documents.
• English language qualification.
• Conditional offers for proposed courses of study (up to three).
• Unconditional offers for proposed courses of study (up to three) (You must upload at least one unconditional offer by July).
• References (If you are invited to interview, you will be invited to upload two references).
• Passport / ID document.
• Submit your application.
