The University of Nairobi (UoN) has scheduled a two-week orientation programme beginning on August 24 to help newly admitted undergraduate and postgraduate students settle into university life before the start of classes.
According to the university, the programme will introduce students to university policies, academic procedures, senior management and the support services available on campus.
It will also familiarize them with academic facilities such as libraries, lecture theatres, laboratories and bookstores, as well as accommodation, medical services, counseling, catering, sports, clubs and societies.
“The University of Nairobi wishes to take this early opportunity to congratulate and welcome all the students who have been selected for the various degree Programmes at the premier university, the University of Nairobi, for either undergraduate or postgraduate studies,” UoN stated.
UoN said most orientation activities will be conducted at the faculty level to enable students to interact with academic staff and become familiar with their respective faculties and campuses.
The university also announced that all dining halls will remain open throughout the orientation period, with meals offered on a pay-as-you-eat basis. Breakfast will be served daily from 6.00 a.m. to 8.00 a.m.
Students allocated university accommodation will be received by hall officers and custodians after completing registration in their respective halls.
In addition, the university directed students to upload a passport-size photograph to the student portal and apply for their student identification cards online. The ID cards will be available for download after students complete biometric registration.
UoN further said transport would be provided to facilitate students’ attendance at the Vice Chancellor’s address and other orientation activities where necessary.
The university added that counsellors, placement officers and other staff from the Office of the Dean of Students would be available throughout the orientation period and the academic year to provide guidance and student support services.

Programme for Orientation
Day One: Monday, August 24, 2026
First-year students will report to their respective campuses for admission and registration. Registration will be conducted at designated centres based on each student’s faculty and degree programme.
Day Two: Tuesday, August 25, 2026
Course registration will begin at the respective faculties and departments from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.
Day Three: Wednesday, August 26, 2026
Deans will address first-year students at their respective faculties from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. Course registration will continue in the afternoon from 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.
Day Four: Thursday, August 27, 2026
Course registration will continue at the respective faculties and departments during the morning. Later in the day, the Vice Chancellor will address students at Taifa Hall beginning at 2.30 p.m.
Day Five: Friday, August 28, 2026
Students will participate in a Library Orientation session from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. In the afternoon, they will attend sensitization sessions on HIV/AIDS, alcohol and drug abuse prevention (ADAP), mental health, values and ethics, held at their respective campuses.
Day Six: Saturday, August 29, 2026
The orientation programme will conclude with sports and games at various campuses in the morning and afternoon, followed by entertainment activities in the evening.
Week Two: August 31 – September 4, 2026
During the second week, all first-year students will undergo training on online learning, with attendance being mandatory. The university said the detailed training schedule would be provided separately.
On Tuesday, September 1, postgraduate students will be addressed virtually by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs) and the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Enterprise) from 2.00 p.m.
On Wednesday, September 2, international students will attend an address by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs) at Taifa Hall beginning at 2.00 p.m.
The week’s programme will conclude on Friday, September 4, with an address for students with disabilities by the Chairperson of the University of Nairobi Committee on Disability, starting at 2.00 p.m.
Week Three: September 7, 2026
The orientation programme will conclude with the commencement of lectures in all 10 faculties on Monday, September 7, 2026, from 8.00 a.m.
