Dr Juliet Gikonyo Nyaga is the Chief Executive Officer of The Karen Hospital, a position she has held since August 2020.
Gikonyo had previously served as the hospital’s CEO-designate for one year, from July 2019 to June 2020, before taking over the top leadership role.
She succeeded Dr Betty Gikonyo, who moved from the CEO position to become Chairman of The Karen Hospital Board.

She served as Chief Operations Officer at The Karen Hospital from 2012 to July 2015, gaining experience in the hospital’s operations and administration.
She later returned to the institution as CEO-designate in July 2019, a position she held for one year before being appointed Chief Executive Officer in July 2020.
As CEO, Juliet has continued to lead the private healthcare institution, overseeing its operations and strategic direction.
Juliet’s rise to the position of CEO followed several years of experience within The Karen Hospital, including her tenure as Chief Operations Officer and later as CEO-designate.
Her appointment in 2020 marked a transition in the hospital’s executive leadership, with Dr Betty M. Gikonyo moving to the board chairperson position.

Juliet holds two Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in Massachusetts, United States, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the university.
She later pursued a Master’s degree in Public Health, specializing in Epidemiology, at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States.
Her academic background combines training in biology, psychology, and public health epidemiology with professional experience in healthcare administration and hospital management.
Her Relation to Dr. Dan Gikonyo
Dr Juliet Gikonyo Nyaga is the daughter of Dr Dan Gikonyo and Dr Betty Gikonyo, the couple behind the establishment of The Karen Hospital.
Her father, Dr Dan Gikonyo, is a renowned cardiologist and co-founder of The Karen Hospital. Her mother, Dr Betty Gikonyo, is an acclaimed pediatric cardiologist and also a co-founder of the hospital.
She later served as the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer before becoming Chairperson of the Board.
Juliet’s family has maintained a strong presence in the medical profession and at The Karen Hospital.
Her sibling, Dr Anthony Gikonyo, followed in his parents’ footsteps and pursued a career in cardiology.
He is an interventional adult cardiologist who earned his medical degree from Howard Medical School and serves as the Medical Director at The Karen Hospital.
