Teacher Cillah, whose full name is Priscilla Wanjiku Karanja, is a Kenyan educator, TikTok content creator, and digital learning advocate.
Cillah gained widespread recognition for using music, dance, and storytelling to make learning enjoyable for primary school pupils.
The Grade 3 teacher became one of Kenya’s most recognizable education influencers, building a massive online following through her innovative classroom content and learner-centered teaching methods.
Her videos, which feature pupils singing, dancing, and actively participating in lessons, have attracted local and international attention by demonstrating how technology can transform education.
According to Cillah, teaching is a calling, and she has advised teachers to pursue it only if it is their passion, to avoid messing up future generations.
“If you feel it is within you, go for it, but if you are not sure, leave it because once you go to class and you do not like it, you will be messing up the future generation. Teaching is not for the weak.”
Cillah recently attracted national attention in 2026 after a playful and highly publicized social media exchange with George Ruto, the son of President William Ruto.
Early Life and Family
Priscilla Wanjiku Karanja was born and raised in Mai-a-ihii Village, Kikuyu, Kiambu County, as the third-born child in a family of four children.
Her parents earned a living as doughnut distributors, and she spent part of her childhood helping with the family business alongside her siblings.
Teacher Cillah often credits her upbringing for instilling discipline, responsibility, and resilience.
Her passion for teaching developed at a young age while helping her younger siblings with school assignments, leading her to choose education as a career.
Educational Background
Teacher Cillah attended Mai-a-ihii Primary School in Kikuyu, where she has openly admitted that she struggled academically at times during her primary school years.
She has described herself as a “slow learner” or “time taker,” particularly between Grades five and Eight.
One of the most influential figures in her educational journey was a teacher named Mr. Njoroge, who consistently encouraged her and reminded her of her potential despite her academic struggles.
Eventually, Cillah scored above 300 marks in KCPE and joined Githunguri Girls High School, where she initially struggled with the transition to secondary education.
However, she gradually improved her performance and later assumed leadership responsibilities as the school’s Dining Hall Captain.
Teacher Cillah later enrolled at Kilimambogo Teachers Training College (TTC) and completed her P1 Teacher Education Certificate in 2019.
Further, Cillah pursued studies in Special Needs Education (Inclusive Education).
Teaching Career and Rise to Fame
Teacher Cillah began her professional teaching career in 2020 at her former school, Mai-a-ihii Primary School, where she worked as an intern teacher, earning approximately KSh 8,000 per month.
Later, she secured employment with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and moved to Nairobi to teach.
Although she initially hoped to become a secondary school teacher, she now teaches Grade 3 pupils and has become a social media sensation after joining TikTok in 2019 under the account @tr.cillah.
Speaking during an Interview with Akili TV, Cillah disclosed that her dream is to own a school that will provide educational value to all students, regardless of financial background, and serve as an inspiration to fellow teachers.

In August 2026, Teacher Cillah became one of the most talked-about personalities after a humorous social media flirtation directed at George Ruto.
The videos featured humorous scenarios involving luxury vehicles, marriage jokes, and plans to establish a school together.
George Ruto later joined the online banter, asking for her TSC registration number and later teasingly claiming not to know her.
Following the viral attention, Cillah has shared direct messages (DM) she has been receiving from trolls on her social media platforms, sparking online debates.
Beyond teaching and content creation, Teacher Cillah is a vocal advocate for educators and learner welfare.
She has spoken publicly about the emotional pressures teachers face, low salaries in the profession, and challenges arising from parental conflicts that often affect learners.
