Gladys Wanjiru Early Life and Education
Gladys Wanjiru was born on August 16, 1981. Wanjiru’s exact birthplace and family background have not been publicly documented. She met Murkomen in 2000 when the two were studying law at the University of Nairobi.
Murkomen described her as a university classmate and said he was attracted to her when they first met. The CS approached her several times, and in their second year, they started dating.

Murkomen also rvealed that Wanjiru secured her job before Murkomen. During this period, she fully supported Murkomen and even helped Him acquire their first vehicle before he ventured into politics.
Murkomen revealed in December 2025 that his wife had stepped away from her corporate career to focus on caring for their children. Wanjiru spoke positively about her decision, highlighting the role she has played in ensuring that their children receive attention while he continues to handle demanding public responsibilities.
The decision has kept Wanjiru largely outside the public eye. Unlike Murkomen, whose career has taken him from legal practice to Parliament and eventually the Cabinet, she has not pursued a political career.
Murkomen and Wanjiru Wedding and Family
The couple marked their 15th wedding anniversary in December 2024, with Murkomen sharing throwback wedding photos celebrating his wife.
In December 2025, Murkomen marked their 16th wedding anniversary, again turning to social media to celebrate Wanjiru and their years together. The anniversary marked more than 16 years of marriage since their wedding in December 2009.
Murkomen has also publicly celebrated Wanjiru on other family occasions. In August 2026, he shared a birthday tribute to his wife, describing her as an important part of his life and family.
Murkomen and Gladys Wanjiru have four children. Their sons Kitoo and Kibet have occasionally been mentioned publicly by their father during examination periods. The couple has also kept the identities and private lives of their other children.
