Uganda's Ministry of Agriculture warned that the seeds are not edible and contain cyanogenic glycosides, which can cause food poisoning if consumed.

Uganda has issued a public food safety alert after rubber tree seeds were reportedly found mixed with beans sold in local markets, raising concerns over potential health risks to consumers and the safety of cross-border food trade.

Uganda's Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) said it had received complaints and verified reports of rubber tree seeds (Hevea brasiliensis) being mixed with beans, particularly in markets in Agago District.

The Ministry warned that the seeds are not edible and contain cyanogenic glycosides, which can cause food poisoning if consumed.
