The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has advertised 1,631 promotional vacancies for serving teachers across the country and invited qualified candidates to submit applications through its online recruitment portal.
The vacancies target Deputy Principals, Senior Masters, and Deputy Headteachers in what the commission described as a re-advertisement of promotion opportunities.
According to the notice, applicants must submit their applications online through the TSC portal, and the commission must receive them by midnight on September 14, 2026.
The commission said it is filling the vacancies in line with the Career Progression Guidelines for Teachers.

TSC Advertises Promotional Vacancies
The advertised positions include 132 vacancies for Deputy Principal III (Regular) under Grade D1 and T-Scale 11, 29 vacancies for Senior Master II under Grade D1 and T-Scale 11, and 1,470 vacancies for Deputy Headteacher II (Regular) under Grade C4 and T-Scale 9.
The total number of available promotion slots stands at 1,631.
The largest share of the vacancies has been allocated to the Deputy Headteacher II position, which accounts for 1,470 openings.
Deputy Principal III position has 132 vacancies, while Senior Master II has 29 positions.
The latest advertisement comes shortly after TSC concluded applications for a wider promotion exercise involving more than 34,000 vacancies across various teaching cadres.
The commission has already begun the interview process for those positions, inviting shortlisted candidates to interviews in different parts of the country.
TSC said teachers who had already applied for the three positions under the earlier advertisement and successfully submitted their applications do not need to apply again.
How to Apply
Interested teachers who meet the prescribed qualifications must submit their applications through the TSC online portal at www.teachersonline.go.ke before the deadline.
The commission urged applicants to ensure they enter all required information correctly during the application process.
Applicants are also encouraged to review the qualification requirements for their preferred positions before submitting applications.
Since the vacancies are promotional posts, candidates are expected to meet the requirements outlined under the Career Progression Guidelines for Teachers.
TSC reiterated that it is an equal opportunity employer and encouraged teachers living with disabilities to apply for the available positions.
According to the commission, the promotion exercise is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen school leadership while creating career progression opportunities for teachers across the country.
What the Positions Entail
The advertised positions are leadership roles that place successful candidates at the center of school management and academic supervision.
Deputy Headteacher II, which accounts for 1,470 of the 1,631 vacancies, serves as the second-in-command in primary schools.
The officer assists the headteacher in managing school operations, supervising curriculum implementation, monitoring learner discipline and attendance, coordinating teachers, and overseeing administrative functions.
For secondary schools, TSC has advertised 132 Deputy Principal III vacancies.
The position involves assisting the principal in the day-to-day running of the institution, supervising academic programs, coordinating examinations, monitoring teacher performance, managing student welfare, and supporting strategic planning and policy implementation.
It is a key leadership role and often serves as a pathway to principalship.
Senior Masters provide academic leadership within schools, coordinate curriculum delivery, mentor teachers, monitor learner performance, oversee examinations, and advise school administrators on academic matters.
