Kenya Airways pilot Kevin Theuri Wachira died after succumbing to severe head injuries sustained during an incident in Nairobi on July 20.

Wachira’s final hours began with an evening out at the Nairobi West Prison Mess in Lang’ata.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Homicide Unit report, he was found unconscious near the entrance to the facility along Lang’ata Road.

Wachira was taken to Mbagathi Hospital by a man who identified himself as a Good Samaritan.

Upon arrival, he was admitted as an “unknown African male” after medical staff observed severe head injuries and bleeding from the mouth.

Doctors attempted to stabilize him and later sought to transfer him to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for specialized intensive care.

However, the transfer could not proceed because no ICU bed was available.

Despite efforts to save his life, Wachira succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 8:10 p.m. on July 20, 2026.

A post-mortem examination later concluded that he died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Kevin Theuri Early Life and Family

The late Kevin Theuri Wachira was born on January 12, 1993, in Gatugi Village, Thuti Sublocation, Karima Location, Othaya Division, Nyeri County.

He was the firstborn son of Eng. James Wachira Theuri and Susan Wachuka Wachira and was the elder brother of Roselyne Wangui and Wendy Wakarima.

Wachira was the grandson of Priscah Wakarima, the late Samuel Nderitu, and the late Ernesto and Narcisa Theuri.

He was also a brother-in-law to Antony Karanja, an uncle to Dave Kenzo and James Wachira, and a cherished nephew and cousin to many members of his extended family.

Before his untimely death, Wachira was set to marry Milly Jesang, and his family had been looking forward to celebrating their union.

Education Background

Kevin Theuri began his education at Fountain Junior before attending Excel Academy and Garden Estate for his early primary schooling.

He later joined Mount Laverna Academy in Class Two, where he completed his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 2006.

For his secondary education, he enrolled at Pioneer Academy before transferring to Queen of Apostles Seminary, where he sat his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations in 2010.

From an early age, Wachira dreamed of becoming a pilot. Determined to pursue his ambition, he enrolled at CMC Flying School at Wilson Airport after completing high school, earning his Private Pilot Licence in 2012.

He later joined DAC Aviation School, where he obtained his Commercial Pilot Licence in 2014, marking a major step toward his aviation career.

Kevin Theuri’s Career Background

Wachira began his aviation career in 2014 as an intern at AMREF Flying Doctors.

He later joined Air Kenya in 2015, where he worked until June 2019 before moving to Kenya Airways in July of the same year.

At Kenya Airways, Wachira steadily advanced through the ranks as a pilot. Shortly before his death, he achieved a significant career milestone after being promoted from flying the Embraer aircraft to the larger Boeing 737.

He successfully completed the required training and obtained his Boeing 737 type rating on July 2, 2026, fulfilling another milestone in his aviation career.
