The Babu Owino-led party opposed proposed changes to the Elections Act, warning that removing the requirement would weaken public oversight of the electoral process and undermine confidence in election results.

The Mwananchi Party (TMP) has called on Parliament to reinstate the legal requirement for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to livestream election results as they are announced at polling stations ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In a statement dated October 23, 2026, the Babu Owino-led party opposed proposed changes to the Elections Act, warning that removing the requirement would weaken public oversight of the electoral process and undermine confidence in election results.

It argued that livestreaming allows voters, political parties, journalists and election observers to monitor results in real time, helping to ensure transparency during the counting and transmission process.
