The Embakasi East MP pledges to tackle garbage, water shortages, poor roads and unemployment as he seeks to unseat Johnson Sakaja in the 2027 Nairobi governor race.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has promised to overhaul Nairobi’s services, eliminate corruption and create jobs if elected governor in 2027, pitching a cleaner, better-managed capital as he seeks to unseat incumbent Johnson Sakaja.

Speaking during a church service at Jesus Teaching Ministry in Donholm, Nairobi, on Sunday, October 18, 2026, Babu urged residents to give him a chance to lead the county, arguing that his record as an MP demonstrated his ability to deliver development projects.

“And therefore, to the great people of Nairobi, I’m asking you humbly that if you vote for me as your governor in 2027, if you give me your votes, I will give you a clean city,” he said.

The legislator pledged to tackle garbage collection, improve road infrastructure, expand access to clean water and create employment opportunities across the capital.

“If you give me your votes, I will give you a city that is free from corruption,” Babu said, promising residents “clean and fresh water” and jobs.

He also criticised the current county administration, accusing its leadership of failing to protect public resources and manage the city’s wealth responsibly.

“We gave an opportunity to some of our brothers, but just like the third servant, he did not invest. Instead, the whole of Nairobi iko kwa tumbo yake, amemeza mali yote ya Wakenya,” he declared.

The MP further accused unnamed leaders of squandering Nairobi’s resources, making accountability and the management of public funds central to his campaign message.

Defending his record in Embakasi East, Babu cited roads, water projects, schools, business opportunities, school buses and bursaries as achievements during his tenure in Parliament, which began in 2017.

“You gave me your votes, and I gave you roads. You gave me your votes, and I gave you water. You gave me your votes, and I gave you new schools,” he told the congregation.

He said he would extend the same approach to service delivery across Nairobi, pledging to lead with humility and respect while restoring the city’s dignity.

Babu’s declaration puts garbage management, corruption, water shortages, poor infrastructure and unemployment at the centre of his 2027 gubernatorial bid, as he seeks to replace Sakaja at City Hall.
