Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has told President William Ruto's allies to stop wooing Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka into government, saying the overtures are an exercise in futility.

The DCP leader insisted that Kalonzo leader remains committed to their political cause ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during a church service at PCEA Kamangu in Kikuyu Constituency, Kiambu County, Gachagua dismissed efforts by Kenya Kwanza leaders to convince Kalonzo to abandon the opposition, saying the Wiper leader was not interested in joining the administration.

"I have seen people in government trying very hard to woo Kalonzo, telling him to join them because he will not get anything in the opposition. They want to make him think that he will get the running mate slot. Who can believe that?" Gachagua posed.

The former Deputy President said Kalonzo had changed from the politician Kenyans previously knew, describing him as a trustworthy leader who would not betray the electorate.

"I have been with him in the last two years. He is a trustworthy leader and will not betray the people of Kenya," he said.

Gachagua urged Ruto's allies to stop making public appeals to Kalonzo, saying the Wiper leader had already made up his mind to remain in the opposition.

"I want to tell Ruto's allies to stop bothering Kalonzo. Kalonzo is our cousin, and I, Rigathi Gachagua, am the family spokesman. If there is anything you want from Kalonzo, come to me," he said.

He further challenged government leaders seeking Kalonzo's support to meet him at his Wamunyoro home instead of his Nairobi residence.

"Do not go to my home in Nairobi. Come to Wamunyoro and tell me what you want from my cousin. But you stand no chance of winning Kalonzo," Gachagua added.

The former Deputy President maintained that Kalonzo was committed to what he termed the liberation of the country and was working closely with opposition leaders to challenge the government.

His remarks come amid renewed efforts by Kenya Kwanza allies to persuade Kalonzo to work with Ruto ahead of the 2027 polls.

Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has announced plans to hold talks with Kalonzo, while Ruto's aide Farouk Kibet has also been at the forefront of calls for the Wiper leader to abandon the opposition.

However, Kalonzo and his party have repeatedly dismissed reports of plans to join government, maintaining their commitment to the opposition alongside Gachagua and other political leaders.
