Kawuki, who served as a nominated MCA under the Jubilee Party, died on Saturday at Aga Khan Hospital in Mombasa, where she had been receiving treatment.

The County Assembly of Taita Taveta is mourning two of its members who died within hours of each other, one following an illness and the other in a motorcycle accident.

Nominated MCA Margaret Kawuki, who represented the Jubilee Party, died on Saturday at Aga Khan Hospital in Mombasa, where she had been receiving treatment.

Her body was later taken to St Joseph’s Shelter of Hope Funeral Home in Ikanga, Voi, where fellow MCAs, Assembly staff, family members and local leaders gathered to receive it.

On Sunday morning, the Assembly announced the death of Brian Mark Mwandata, a Sergeant-at-Arms officer who died following a road accident involving the motorcycle he was riding.

The two deaths have plunged the Assembly and the wider Taita Taveta community into mourning.

Kawuki chaired the Assembly’s Committee on Gender and Culture and served in several other committees during her tenure as a nominated representative.
