Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has highlighted billions of shillings in road, market and housing projects in Nakuru County, calling on residents to maintain unity as Kenya heads towards the 2027 General Election.

Kindiki made the appeal on Tuesday while inspecting ongoing development projects in Lawina and Nesuit in Njoro Constituency, saying the government remained committed to fulfilling pledges made during the 2022 election campaigns.

In Lawina, the Deputy President inspected the tarmacking of the 40-kilometre Njoro-Beeston-Nesuit/Beeston-Lawina-Elburgon Road, which is being constructed at a cost of Sh2 billion.

He also announced that rehabilitation of the 120-kilometre Mauche-Bombo-Olenguruone-Kaptagich-Silibwet Road had commenced, with the project costing Sh3.3 billion.

The two projects are part of a wider programme to tarmac 870 kilometres of roads across Nakuru County at a total cost of Sh38 billion.

“Inspected construction works, Njoro-Beeston-Nesuit/Beeston-Lawina-Elburgon Road, a 40-kilometre transport corridor being tarmacked at a cost of 2 billion shillings. The Government has also commenced the rehabilitation of the 120-kilometre Mauche-Bombo-Olenguruone-Kaptagich-Silibwet Road, at a cost of 3.3 billion shillings,” Kindiki said.

He described road infrastructure as a key driver of national transformation and economic growth, saying construction was progressing across the country under the Usawa ni Sawa Initiative.

Beyond roads, Kindiki inspected the construction of three markets in Nesuit, Mauche and Kihingo, which are nearing completion at costs of Sh55 million, Sh56 million and Sh65 million, respectively.

The markets are intended to improve trading facilities and provide traders with better working environments to support local economic activities.

Across Nakuru County, 25 markets are under construction, while four more are planned. The ongoing projects have a combined cost of Sh2.3 billion, with the proposed markets expected to require an additional Sh715 million.

Kindiki also highlighted investments under the Housing Fund, saying Sh47 billion had been deployed in Nakuru County across 17 affordable housing projects, 19 institutional housing projects and 29 market projects.

The Deputy President urged residents to remain united despite their political differences, maintaining that the Kenya Kwanza administration was focused on delivering its development agenda.

His Nakuru visit is part of a wider tour of the Mount Kenya region, where he has been inspecting development projects and holding public meetings with residents.

He has already visited Murang’a, Nyandarua, Kiambu and Tharaka counties, among others, where he has appealed to residents to work together regardless of their political affiliations.
