Sammy Ngotho is the Ol Kalou Member of Parliament-elect after winning the hotly contested election held on July 16. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared Ngotho the winner after garnering more than 35,000 votes. In his inaugural speech, Ngotho, a close ally of the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, addressed several issues, including lessons from the mini poll, a message to the national government and the journey ahead.
Flanked by Nyandarua Senator Methu Muhia, he said the by-election outcome should serve as a message to the national government, arguing that voters used the poll to express their dissatisfaction with President William Ruto’s administration.
Speaking after being declared the Ol Kalou MP-elect on July 17, Ngotho said the by-election results showed that the government was gradually losing public support.
“And also a statement to the national government. I hope you can see the rightness in the world. The people of Olkalou have spoken. The government is not doing well. People have been saying it. Today you have seen it. And as we have been saying in our local dialect, the president today has been whitewashed,” he said.
Sammy Ngotho Criticizes By-Election Violence
In his address, Sammy Ngotho also alleged that armed groups attempted to interfere with the by-election, claiming they operated in unmarked vehicles and disrupted the electoral process.
“We encountered goons with even more powerful weapons than the armed officers, driving around in unmarked Subarus, Prados and pickups. It is shameful that a life has been lost today because of these maneuvers,” he said.
However, he commended uniformed police officers for maintaining order but alleged that some officers had been instructed to stand down as the suspected goons attempted to infiltrate polling stations.
Further, Sammy Ngotho condemned attacks on journalists covering the by-election, alleging that several media personnel were assaulted at Mumbi Primary School and had their equipment destroyed.
At the same time, Nyandarua Senator John Methu said he was satisfied with the outcome of the Ol Kalou by-election, arguing that the campaign had made the government more unpopular among voters.
He also alleged that government projects and benefits distributed during the campaign amounted to voter bribery and called for investigations into the claims.
Regarding the violence witnessed during the by-election, Methu said the incidents should be taken seriously and added that the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) would consult with its leader, Rigathi Gachagua, on the way forward.
IEBC declared Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) the duly elected Member of the National Assembly for Ol Kalou Constituency after he garnered 35,440 votes in the July 16, 2026 by-election.
His closest challenger, Samuel Muchina Nyagah of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), finished second with 5,450 votes.
