President William Ruto, Kisii Governor Simba Arati and Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi have renewed calls for closer cooperation between the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), saying the broad-based government should remain united ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking in Karachuonyo, Homa Bay County, Arati said the two sides had agreed on what he described as a 50-50 partnership in running the broad-based government.

“We have agreed with the President that in building this broad-based government moving forward, it will be a 50-50 equal partnership,” Arati said.

The governor said the partnership had extended from the national leadership to the grassroots, insisting that the two sides were now working as one team.

“From the President and his team down to the local level, we are completely united as one. We must ensure that William Ruto secures his second term,” he said.

Arati said Homa Bay and the wider Nyanza region were united as the political partnership takes shape.

“Looking at Kabondo Kasipul, Nyanza stands fully united and ready as we move forward together,” he said.

Mbadi, who also spoke during the event, sought to highlight what he described as increased government development activity in Homa Bay under the Ruto administration.

He said the county had only three roads under construction to bitumen standards when Ruto took office, and that all three projects had stalled.

“Today, 19 road projects are actively being constructed across Homa Bay with contractors fully on-site to complete them,” Mbadi said.

The CS also linked the ODM-UDA partnership to the late Raila Odinga’s political direction, saying the former opposition leader had instructed his supporters to work with Ruto on key issues including debt management, housing and healthcare.

“Raila Amolo Odinga explicitly instructed us to support President Ruto on debt management, housing, and healthcare, considering Ruto part of the broader ODM family,” Mbadi said.

He added that the two parties intended to maintain their cooperation beyond the current administration.

“Those criticising our broad-based government do not realise that UDA and ODM plan to stand together as a team in 2027 and beyond,” he said.

Ruto, for his part, urged residents to back the political partnership, describing the ODM-UDA arrangement as the formation through which his administration was implementing its agenda.

The President said ODM had now found what he described as its “rightful place” in government, following his post-election engagement with Raila.

“I want to remind the people of Homa Bay that the opposition is in very bad shape. After the last election, I sat down with Baba and told him that there is no difference between us, since we started together in ODM, and that is why with me as President, ODM has found its rightful place,” Ruto said.

He called for the two parties to formally unite in pursuit of what he described as a government serving all Kenyans.

“Now I ask you, let us unite our ODM and UDA parties to form a government for all Kenyans,” he said.

Ruto cited markets, affordable housing, education, universal health coverage, agriculture and infrastructure as areas where he said the government was implementing its agenda.

“The only political formation with a proven, transformative, and practical agenda for Kenya is the broad-based coalition of ODM and UDA,” he said.

Looking ahead to 2027, the President framed the proposed political cooperation as an effort to bring together Kenyans from different communities.

“In 2027, let us vote to unite all Kenyans from all communities and corners of the country to build a nation free of division, hatred, and marginalisation,” Ruto said.

He asked residents of Karachuonyo and Homa Bay whether they were ready to support the proposed unity ahead of the election.
