Internal Security Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has urged residents of Nyanza to support President William Ruto, citing government development projects in the region as evidence of the administration’s commitment to serving Kenyans regardless of their political affiliations.
Omollo said the government had initiated and implemented development programmes in Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori and Kisumu counties since Ruto assumed office, arguing that residents should assess the administration based on its record on service delivery.
He expressed optimism that the projects would help strengthen the President’s support in a region that has traditionally backed opposition leaders.
The PS said political differences among leaders should not prevent residents from recognising development initiatives undertaken by the government.
He maintained that the administration’s focus on service delivery demonstrated its commitment to improving the lives of Kenyans across the country, irrespective of their political backgrounds.
Omollo also suggested that while political leaders may hold divergent positions on the country’s political direction, sentiment at the grassroots was not necessarily aligned with the positions taken by some of their leaders.
He expressed hope that residents would rally behind Ruto as political activity gathers momentum ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The remarks point to the administration’s efforts to expand its political support in Nyanza, a region where Ruto’s government has sought to build relationships with local leaders and communities.
The region has remained an important political battleground following changes in alliances and the evolving relationship between the ruling coalition and leaders from the opposition.
Omollo argued that development and service delivery should be central to political choices, urging residents to look beyond political divisions and consider the government’s work in their counties.
His message comes as leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the next General Election, with development pledges and the implementation of government projects likely to feature prominently in political campaigns.
The administration has increasingly highlighted its development agenda across regions that have historically supported rival political formations, seeking to demonstrate that public investment should not be determined by voting patterns.
For Nyanza, the government’s projects could become part of the debate over whether development delivery should influence political support in the next election.
Omollo urged residents to remain united and recognise efforts aimed at improving their livelihoods as the country approaches the polls.
