Ruto’s four-day tour will cover Machakos, Makueni and Kitui counties, with planned projects targeting water access, roads, affordable housing and electricity connectivity. He is also expected to issue title deeds during the tour.

President William Ruto has kicked off a four-day development tour of Ukambani by commissioning the Sh1.47 billion Mwala Cluster Water Supply Project in Machakos County, as the government seeks to address persistent water shortages and improve infrastructure across the region.

The project, commissioned in Mbiuni Ward, Mwala Constituency, on Saturday, has a supply capacity of 6.6 million litres per day and is expected to serve 137,400 people and 10 institutions across 10 towns. A second phase, estimated to cost Sh500 million, is expected to extend water access to an additional 120,000 residents in Mwala Constituency.

Ruto pledged to address water shortages in Ukambani through the construction of additional dams for domestic use and irrigation. He said the proposed National Infrastructure Fund would support the development of two major dams in the region.
