The photo Wiper Patriotic Front is referring to

Wiper Patriotic Front has clarified the circumstances surrounding an old photograph showing party leader Kalonzo Musyoka with President William Ruto, following its recirculation on social media .

The photograph resurfaced in late October 2026 as Ruto toured Machakos, Makueni and Kitui counties on a four-day development tour.

The tour came amid alleged political efforts by some political figures to woo Kalonzo and his supporters ahead of the 2027 General Election, prompting online speculation about a possible political realignment between the two leaders.

In a statement, Wiper Patriotic Front spokesperson Ndegwa Njiru said the photograph was taken in October 2018, when Ruto, then Deputy President, visited Kalonzo’s family to offer condolences following the death of his father, Mzee Peter Musyoka Mairu.

Njiru said the visit was also attended by Kithure Kindiki and Kipchumba Murkomen, who were then Senators and are now Deputy President and Interior Cabinet Secretary, respectively.

He expressed concern over the photograph’s circulation on social media, saying it captured a private moment during a period of bereavement.

The spokesperson criticised what he described as the use of the image for political purposes, amid speculation about the relationship between Kalonzo and Ruto ahead of the next General Election.

He said the party remained committed to its political course despite the exchanges surrounding the photograph.

“No volume of blackmail, no orchestration of state-sponsored propaganda, and no distortion of private moments of bereavement will break the resolve of those determined to liberate this country...,” Njiru said.

He stated that Kalonzo, whom he described as the party’s presidential candidate, would only meet Ruto at the ballot.

“I wish to reiterate that our party leader and presidential candidate shall only meet the leader of this regime at the ballot,” he said.
