Jakes Nyanjom has built a name for himself in Kenya’s entertainment industry through radio, digital content, photography, videography, and music.
Nyanjom first came into the public eye partly through his connection to his mother, veteran broadcaster Joyce Gituro, but has gradually built his own career in radio and entertainment.
His breakthrough came at Homeboyz Radio, where he moved from hosting the station’s overnight program to joining the Drive Show at a young age.
Early Life and Family
In an interview with KTN, Jakes said he grew up in Kilimani and Jamhuri, Nairobi, alongside his siblings Walter and Rachel.
He is the youngest son of veteran broadcaster Joyce Gituro, a prominent figure in Kenyan radio who has worked with stations including Radio Citizen and Milele FM.
Gituro also served as head of radio at Radio Citizen before later moving into other media and public communication roles.
Nyanjom’s connection to broadcasting began long before he became a radio host.
According to Nyanjom, his mother strongly influenced his interest in entertainment and broadcasting and encouraged him to create content on his social media platforms.
“Way back when I was young, I used to tell my mum who used to go to the Sunday show to wake me up so that we could go together. I have really been very passionate about entertainment at large. I learned a lot,” Jakes said during an interview with SPM buzz.
He also became popular online through humorous videos and skits featuring his mother.
Education and Early Media Career
Nyanjom studied Mass Media and Communication at Daystar University.
Before joining the studio as a presenter, Jakes worked as an intern handling the social media platforms of the company.
“I started as an intern; I was handling some social media platforms for the company, and that is what got me intrigued about the social media space, handling people in terms of creating content for them and looking at what people are up to, ” Jakes Nyanjom explained on his career journey.
Clarifying public speculation on his rise in the media industry through his mother’s legacy, Jakes explained that after attaining his diploma, his mother helped him get an internship, and from there he built his own career path.
Joining Homeboyz Radio
At Homeboyz Radio, Jakes initially hosted the station’s late-night program, which ran from midnight to 5 am, Monday to Friday.
In May 2024, Homeboyz announced that the then 18-year-old Nyanjom would join the station’s Drive Show alongside Lotan, replacing Kerry Martin, who had left after almost nine years at the station.
The promotion placed him among the youngest prominent radio presenters in Kenya.
Jakes Nyanjom and Tumi Mathenge
In his personal life, Jakes is in a relationship with Tumi Mathenge, the daughter of celebrated Kenyan musicians Nameless and Wahu.
For months, the two had attracted attention through photographs, videos, and social media interactions in which they appeared together.
Tumi surprised Nyanjom with a Manchester United jersey for his birthday in April 2026, and later, in September 2026, Tumi visited Nyanjom at Homeboyz Radio.
During an on-air conversation, co-presenter Chunkz asked the pair about their relationship after noting that their frequent appearances together had led people to believe they were dating.
Responding to the question, Tumi clarified that they were “doing well together.”
The two also spoke about how they spend time together away from the public eye; Nyanjom said they play FIFA together, while Tumi said they watch movies and cook together at his home.
Music and Other Creative Work
Nyanjom has also ventured into music as part of his broader entertainment career.
In late 2024, he entered music with the Gengetone and Arban-style single “Ma Barbie,” produced by Mavo On The Beat.
His other releases include Rat Race and Trust the Process.
