Former Kenya rugby sevens captain Andrew Amonde has backed Shujaa to regain their place in the top tier as they prepare for the upcoming HSBC SVNS 2 season.

“The boys played very well, with a lot of determination and passion. It is something that really impressed me and the fans. They are heading in the right direction,” said Amonde.

Shujaa successfully defended their Safari Sevens title with a commanding 24-5 victory over Kenya Morans in an all-Kenyan final at Nyayo National Stadium.

Amonde attributed the team’s success to the blend of youthful talent and experienced players, saying the combination would be important in developing talent and building a strong national side.

“The blend of the youth and the experienced players really played a huge part in the team’s success in the tournament. It is something that will help in talent development and building a strong national team,” he added.

The KCB head coach also urged the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) to provide Shujaa with adequate support and exposure as they seek to return to the top tier of international sevens rugby.

“They need all the support to keep shining, and they need a lot of exposure to get back to the first tier. I believe they are going to get back,” stated the former captain.
