Dan Lawrence Siblings: All About Tom Lawrence

Daniel William Lawrence, born on 12 July 1997 in Whipps Cross, London, is an English professional cricketer.

He is a right-handed middle-order batsman and occasional right-arm off-break bowler who has represented the England Test team.

Lawrence currently plays domestic cricket for Surrey in the County Championship after beginning his professional career with Essex.

He stands at around 5 feet 11 inches and developed his game at Chingford Cricket Club in Essex, where his father worked as groundsman.

Siblings

Dan has a younger brother named Tom Lawrence, who is approximately three years his junior.

The brothers grew up together in the flat built into the pavilion at Chingford Cricket Club, where their father Mark served as groundsman.

While Dan focused on cricket from a young age, practicing extensively and showing natural talent with the bat, Tom was more inclined toward physical activity involving jumps and somersaults.

Tom later pursued a career as a professional wrestler, performing under the ring name David Wreckham, a moniker inspired by former England footballer David Beckham.

He has trained and competed with promotions such as Lucha Britannia.

Career

Lawrence’s professional career began with Essex, where he made his first-class debut against Kent in April 2015.

In only his second first-class match, at the age of 17 years and 290 days, he scored 161 against Surrey at The Oval, becoming the third-youngest batsman to register a century in the County Championship.

His batting contributions helped Essex secure promotion and then win the County Championship title in 2017.

He also featured for England Under-19s, scoring a memorable 174 against Fiji in the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, and later for the England Lions.

Lawrence made his Test debut for England against Sri Lanka in Galle in January 2021, scoring 73 in his first innings.

He has gone on to play multiple Tests, with a highest score of 91, and has appeared in various limited-overs and franchise competitions, including the Big Bash League for Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars, The Hundred for London Spirit, and other overseas leagues.

In 2023 he signed a multi-year deal with Surrey, joining the club for the 2024 season.

There he has continued to develop as both a batsman and useful off-spinner, producing strong County Championship performances, including a maiden first-class double century of 218 and a rapid subsequent hundred in the same match against Hampshire in 2026.

He has also been recalled to the England Test side in recent series.

Accolades

Among his notable achievements, Lawrence was named the Cricket Writers’ Club Young Cricketer of the Year in 2017 after scoring 761 runs at an average of nearly 45, including three centuries, as Essex claimed the County Championship.

He holds the distinction of being one of the youngest players to score a Championship century and the youngest Essex first-class centurion at the time of his 161 against Surrey.

His 174 in a youth ODI for England Under-19s stands as a high mark for an English batsman in that format.

With Essex he collected Championship and other domestic titles, and later contributed to Surrey’s success.

Individual highlights include multiple half-centuries in Test cricket and high-impact innings in franchise T20 competitions.
