Kenya’s Junior Starlets reached a historic milestone at the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, after they qualified for the Round of 16, helped in particular by a resounding 4–0 win over Samoa.
Kenya’s success is part of a broader trend; alongside Morocco, Nigeria, and Ghana, four of the five African teams in the competition have reached the round of 16, a first in the tournament’s history.

Hosting this World Cup in Africa gives the continent’s young players rare international visibility and allows fans, in the stadiums and at home, to discover the stars of tomorrow.
The tournament’s centralised format, bringing together 24 teams for 52 matches, creates more opportunities to watch these players compete against the best nations in the world.

For the whole continent, the challenge now is to turn this momentum into lasting progress.
That means investing in player development, strengthening clubs, and growing national women’s competitions, so that the standards seen in Morocco become the norm for African women’s football.
