Shreyas Santosh Iyer is an Indian international cricketer born on 6 December 1994 in Chembur, Mumbai.

A right-handed top- or middle-order batsman, he represents India across formats, captains the national team in T20 Internationals, and serves as vice-captain in One Day Internationals.

In domestic cricket he leads Mumbai, while in the Indian Premier League he has captained multiple franchises and currently leads the Punjab Kings.

He comes from a culturally mixed family: his father Santosh Iyer is a Tamilian with roots in Thrissur, Kerala, and his mother Rohini Iyer is a Tulu from Mangalore.

Raised in Mumbai, he studied at Don Bosco High School and later at Podar College.

    Shreyas has one younger sibling, his sister Shresta Iyer.

    Shresta, born in Mumbai in late April, is a professional dancer, choreographer, performer, and social media personality.

    She completed her schooling at Convent Girls High School and graduated from Ramnarain Ruia College.

    She has made an on-screen appearance, including an item song in the film Sarkari Baccha, and is the founder of the animal-welfare initiative We Are Pawerful.

    They live with their parents in Mumbai.

    Career

    Iyer rose through Mumbai’s junior ranks and made an impact in domestic cricket, notably topping the run charts in the 2015–16 Ranji Trophy with more than 1,300 runs.

    He debuted in the IPL in 2015 with the Delhi Daredevils (later Delhi Capitals), earning the Emerging Player of the Year award that season.

    He later captained Delhi, leading them to the 2020 final, before moving to the Kolkata Knight Riders, whom he captained to the IPL title in 2024.

    In 2025 he joined the Punjab Kings for a then-record-high fee and guided them to the final.

    On the international stage he debuted in 2017 and has been a regular in limited-overs cricket.

    He scored a century on Test debut against New Zealand in 2021, becoming the first Indian to register both a hundred and a fifty on debut.

    He has contributed to India’s successes in the 2023 Asia Cup and the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy and has continued to feature as a key middle-order batter and leader.

    Accolades

    Among his notable achievements are the IPL Emerging Player of the Year award in 2015, leadership of Kolkata Knight Riders to the 2024 IPL championship, and guidance of three different franchises (Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Punjab Kings) to the IPL final – an unprecedented feat.

    He was named ICC Men’s Player of the Month in February 2022 and again in March 2025.

    On the international front he has been part of India’s victorious 2023 Asia Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy campaigns, while his Test debut century remains a career landmark.

    Domestically his prolific 2015-16 Ranji Trophy season further established him as one of Mumbai’s standout talents.
